Magnolias have a special place in this first generation Texan’s heart. These blossoms are an iconic harbinger of Southern summer. In this painting, I focused on the delicate yet commanding mass of the flower, keeping the background abstract. This is my largest magnolia painting yet! The background is ten layers of carefully burnished Venetian Plaster. I modeled the background and subject in oil and cold wax, giving this piece a beautiful texture that has a subtle sheen. The painting is 24 x 24 x 4 on gallery profile panel.
